Itinerary:
Join us for an overnight backpack trip at Blackfoot Recreation Area. We will meet Saturday at 10:00 am at the Waskahegan Staging Area (carpool to be arranged). We will hike 11 km through gently rolling hills to the Winter Shelter, arriving in the early afternoon. We will have a snack, and then have the option of heading out for another hike, geocaching, bird watching or relaxing at the shelter.

Be aware that this is prime Mosquito territory, repellent is a must and mosquito head netting is advised to keep your sanity. We can escape into the shelter if they get too bad.

The Winter shelter has just been upgraded and is at a spot in the reserve that could give us good views of Bison and Elk. 15 Gallons of water and a full wood box will be waiting for us. It is the same distance, 11kms from the Waskehegan trail head as it is to the Lost Lake Shelter.

We will spend Saturday night near the shelter and Sunday we will hike out. Return time will depend on whether people want to do an extended route out or go directly - we will likely break into a couple of groups. hiking directly out would take only 2-3 hours.

The park generously provides us with water, firewood and access to the shelter for free, so the only cost is your own food, and the carpool if you participate. However , early this year there had been a ban on all fires so we may or may not be able to have one.
We will arrange food and cooking equipment together to avoid duplication. This will be organized with all registrants after the cutoff date. Please note that in the event of extreme weather, this event may be cancelled (or modified to a one-day hike) to ensure the safety of participants.
