Itinerary:
Join us cheering our EOC Teams on Friday for Portage on the Prairie a relay competition, February 2nd at 7:00 PM. The relay includes traditional log sawing, and axe throwing after the canoe portage. There will be live music nearby as well where we are meeting in the heart of Edmonton's French Quarter at La Cite Francophone. *There will be a guided walking tour as well once the team competition is done (see below for more details and link).

In the spirit of a great winter city, the Flying Canoë Volant is a creative and interactive cultural celebration designed to engage local history and everything that is great about a long winter's night.
Inspired by the legend of The Flying Canoe and French Canadian, First Nations and Métis traditions, Flying Canoë Volant embraces Edmonton's beautiful Mill Creek Ravine and the newly-established French Quarter.
Following the warm welcome of the Edmonton community, the celebration also organizes The Flying Canoë Volant Races/Relay to further spread the joy, spirit and education of the legend.

We will be watching the competition to start the evening near the school, with an opportunity for some of us to participate if we wish. *After we will explore the festival together by walking further following the lights into the immersive Mill Creek Ravine interactive art displays, tents, and kaleidoscope of lights that mark our pilgrimage along the many paths. Let me know in registration if you are interested in participating on the relay team events (we will have two teams of up to four people on each team). We will go on a guided walk afterwards)

Please meet me at 7:00 PM at Rutherford School North Field - look for us in-between the dome and the play ground. 8620 91 St. This is across the street from La Cite Francophone.

To find me (Mark), I will be wearing my red cross country slim touque. Please also refer to the Volunteer Page to view my profile pic so you can recognize me, if you've not met me before (I'll be wearing glasses with clear plastic white frame).

We will be collecting a $2 donation for the local Centre Communautaire d'Edmonton.
The Centre Communautaire d’Edmonton manages the programmed cultural activities and La Cité Francophone manages the center's day to day operations which include cultural, social, pedagogical, professional and commercial. La Cité also offers outstanding spaces for events with a theatre, classrooms, dance studios and banquet/conference halls.
La Cité Francophone is a catalyst in the community for French cultural initiatives such as the French Quarter Farmer’s Market, Galerie Cité, Café Bicyclette and the Flying Canoe Volant Festival.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:La Cite Francophone is located across the street from where we are meeting at Rutherford School North Field - go into Rutherford School Yard and go past the first entertainment dome and around behind the school passing the ice sculpting tents, playground, and bike racks. Go past the teepee and head straight for the art picture display in the northwest part of the field (a little further past the dance party dome). I will be standing with a red touque just to the side of the art display and close to the soccer goal posts. We should have a good view of the drone show from there. 8620 91 St.

Notes:

Let me know if you are interested in participating if there is room on the relay team. If not you will be a spectator before the festival walk after the team events.
