Itinerary:
The Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area is a large area located to the East of Edmonton near Elk Island, with an extensive network of scenic trails - see the info below:

Cooking Lake / Blackfoot info (Waskahegan Staging Area

We will hike approximately 15 km depending on the group and the paths we choose (minimal elevation for 3 hours or so). The terrain is gently rolling hills and the fall colours should be in full glory!!
This will be a very unique route in the park, which many may have not done.
We will stop at one of the shelters (probably Meadow) for a break, and please bring enough water because there is no potable water in the park. I tend to hike rain or shine, so if the weather is bad, bring your rain gear!
Journey time from the carpool location (Meadows Transit Centre) is approx 30 minutes each way.

If you are meeting at the Blackfoot Lake trailhead, meet at 1:30 PM.
There will be a carpool available from Edmonton if desired - meet at the north east corner in the parking lot for Meadows Transit Centre at 12:45 PM for a 12:50 PM. departure.

Bring sufficient water/snacks, and suitable clothing/footwear for anything the weather might throw at us! (including waterproofs...)
Walking poles are recommended.

IMPORTANT NOTE #1: although dogs are permitted on this event, please note that the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot PRA state that pets should be kept on a leash at all times and your dog must be able to behave in groups of people.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2: keep an eye on your emails and the weather forecast leading up to this event, as it may be postponed in the event of heavy smoke or other condition updates.
