The Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area is a large area located to the East of Edmonton near Elk Island, with an extensive network of scenic trails - see the info below:

Cooking Lake / Blackfoot info

The EOC has not started many hikes from the North East trailhead (Blackfoot Lake) in the past, so we will head there for up to 3-4 hours or so of exploring! This is the same staging area where the Canadian Birkie Ski Festival starts from.
The Blackfoot Lake trailhead is accessed off Hwy 16 (Yellowhead Highway), and is located a short distance to the east of the Ukranian Village turnoff - it is clearly signposted.
If you are not confident in your physical fitness and ability this may not be the event for you.

***We are open to having dogs on the hike, however they must be leashed***
