Itinerary:
Let's get out for a nice skate at Victoria Park, which is a part of Edmonton's group of River Valley parks. Victoria Park is home to the brand new Freezeway, a 400 m winter skating trail through the woods, which newly opened this winter as a pilot project. The main skating rink at Victoria Park (the Victoria Park Oval) is very large and it's free! The Victoria Park Oval is one of the most scenic outdoor Olympic sized speed skating tracks in Canada.

The Oval and Freezeway are both well protected from inclement weather by its location in the River Valley and the surrounding trees, and is home to the Edmonton Speed Skating Club (ESSC). The ESSC shares the use of the rink with the City to allow public skating outside of club hours. Don't worry though, public skating is for regular skating at your own pace. While the ESSC has timeslots when it has exclusive use of the Oval on weekdays, they do not have a timeslot on Friday evenings. There may still be a few speed skaters practicing on the track, but it should be fairly quiet.

There is lots of parking, as well as washrooms and a heated Skate Change Area.

We will meet inside the Skate Change Area at 7:00 PM sharp! I will be wearing a yellow EOC baseball cap.

Please note that rentals are not available at Victoria Park. The City of Edmonton does offer skate rentals for $7/hr from 6-9 PM on Friday evenings, but you will have to head over to the public shelter at Hawrelak Park before and after the event to pick up and drop off skates. Another suggestion is Totem Outdoor Outfitters. They are located at 7430 99 Street, and their number is 780-432-1223.

In case of severe cold or snow this event may be cancelled, so please check your emails on the day of the event.
