Here's some info for the long weekend trip to Canmore and area.

ITINERARY:
FRIDAY - Once I get to Canmore, I plan on going to a cafe then take a walk in town to stretch my legs after a long drive. You are welcome to leave in the morning as well or in the afternoon depending on your schedule. We will all meet up at the hostel in the evening to discuss the snowshoe plan.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY - Ideas for snowshoe trips south of Canmore are: (**still not decided yet but will narrow it down closer to the time)
-- Black Prince Cirque to Warspite Lake - ~4.5km round trip, 150m elevation gain, ~2 hrs. There's a long hill in the beginning but once you've conquered this, there are only several rolling hills the rest of the way to Black Prince Lake.
-- 1982 Canadian Mount Everest Expedition - ~3-4km loop, 120m elevation gain. This is a short climb through mature forest to a high lookout point between the Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes.
-- Marushka/Shark Lake - 9km round trip, 200m elevation gain, ~4 hrs. A few hills along the way, but easy.
-- French Creek - 2km, minimal elevation gain, ~1 hr. The frozen falls are beautiful - good photo opportunity. This will be fairly short as we can't go too far back due to avalanche terrain but not where the falls are - so no worries!
-- William Watson Lodge - lots of short trails with minimal elevation gain, VERY easy - eg. Lower Lake (2.8km of linear lakeshore trail), Marsh Loop (1.3km loop - gradual uphill and downhill), Elkwood Loop (2.9km loop).

MONDAY - We will hike up Grotto Canyon (4km, gradual elevation gain) mid morning to view the pictographs then head back to Edmonton in the afternoon. *Please note that ice grips are a MANDATORY requirement!*

Possible late afternoon/evening activities: ice skating on the pond in town &/or wander around the streets & shops &/or hang out in a pub & hope to find some live music.

ACCOMMODATION: The Hostel Bear at #1002 Bow Valley Trail - www.thehostelbear.com
