Please join us!! :)
Our Event Coordinator, Mae B, has created a Dancewalk group and is organizing an outdoor Dancewalk event on Monday evening. This will be a fun-filled event full of dancing the evening away to some awesome music while walking around Beaumaris Lake. --- Here's is Mae's info from the Facebook Dancewalk group and the event itself. What is Dancewalking you ask? It was inspired by the Nameless Dancewalk Guru Master of NYC,(aka Joe) popularized by Ben Aaron’s Dance Walk craze (video below) and is simply dancing while moving down the street! (Kinda like a mobile dance party!) We like the community vibe so will be organizing open events so we can Dancewalk together in a group! Ben introduces and popularizes DanceWalk. Here's the info about Monday evening's event: Let's get out have some fun, meet some people, enjoy the community, get some exercise, fresh air and Dancewalk! We just need to get the word out there that this movement has hit Edmonton and we are ready to go!!! Yes, this is Easter Monday, also April Fool's Day! We will meet on the staircase behind the Edmonton Public Library at 6:00 p.m. (Castle Downs Branch at Lakeside Landing a.k.a. Beaumaris Mall). We will have a "meet and greet" opportunity, an introduction to dancewalking, a short warm-up exercise then we'll head off to dancewalk the route around the lake. Beaumaris Lake pathways will allow for many stationary dance breathers (breaks) to accommodate all fitness levels as you will sweat, you will feel energized and you will undoubtedly have a great time. After we circle the lake, we can do it twice if people are interested!!! Also, it is very important to take a few mins and do a proper stretch and cool down when you've stopped dancewalking. What to bring? Water to stay hydrated, comfy dancewalk shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and bring your dance groove moves!!! Bring your camera if you like. We will have someone videotaping our first outdoor event and maybe even some media coverage if we have enough participation. No need to bring music as we will have an external source for all to enjoy. We will have many upbeat dancing songs. We want bystanders and onlookers to feel free to join the dancewalk community and it helps when everyone can hear the same music (even though we certainly all dance to a different beat!!). Afterwards we can head over to Brewsters in the mall to "debrief"/wet our whistles, just offering this as an option. --- IMPORTANT INFO!! We will head out from the staircase behind the Edmonton Public Library Castle Downs (a.k.a. Beaumaris Library). We will meet at 5:45pm for a 6:00pm start. To recognize me, (Sandie), I will be wearing my yellow EOC baseball cap, an aqua coloured jacket, plus some colourful beaded necklaces around my neck. | |||||||
