Current News: On Jan. 21, I did one lap of the ice, but the ice was rough with lots of uneven surfaces, big bumps, and various textures. Since conditons are unsafe, the event will now be a walk. We will still meet inside the pavillion by the frozen pond.
Come down to Hawrelak Park, a beautiful park in one of the river valley's most popular recreational areas. In the winter the lake is a huge skating rink! Join us for an evening skate. Skate rentals are available only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so please bring your own skates. Park in the second main parking lot after entering the park. This will be the one closet to the skating pond that you can see off to your left with the large pavillion beside it. Meet inside the pavillion/indoor shelter to put on your skates. I'll wear my yellow EOC hat inside, but if you arrive late, try to find us on the ice, and I'll be wearing a touque. We can warm up inside as needed. Bring your warm drinks and snacks and we can socialize during and after the skating at the tables inside the shelter. A helmet is highly recommended in case you fall. There are often cracks in the ice, so skate carefully please! The event will get cancelled if the ice conditions are not suitable, or the weather is awful! | |||||||
