PRE-REGISTRATION & PAYMENT REQUIRED: Once you've reviewed the event details, and decided you'd like to join us, you MUST sign up at the bottom of this page. You will then make your payment for this event at the venue, NOT in advance to the EOC.

You are STRONGLY encouraged to read this page in its entirety before signing up. If you'd like to attend, we ask that you abide by our rules and procedures as a time/cost saving process (with an end result of keeping membership free and lower cost events).

Itinerary:

This is an opportunity to try backpacking while having your vehicle only 4 KM away.

Friday Night:
People will check-in at Elk Island National Park Friday early evening.
You will pay at the gate; both camping fees and park fees. Your national park pass works for this park so bring it along.
You will park at Tawayik Lake parking lot. See National Park map
From there, we will hike in as a group. You will be responsible for packing in all your camping and hiking gear. The distance from the cars to Oster Lake campsite is 4km. We have the group site.

Saturday:
Day hikes - to be determined on Friday evening.

Sunday:
Hike out and head home for a shower.

You will be camping in a wilderness area. Be prepared to tie food and belongings in trees, away from animals.
There is no running water, or showers, so you will have to pack in your own drinking water or bring a water filter. There are outhouses provided in the campsite.
Weather is unknown; please pack for rain or shine. Don’t forget your bug spray. More details to follow after the cut-off date.
Due to park rules, alcohol and fishing are not permitted in this campsite.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take Yellowhead/ Hwy #16 East until you reach Elk Island National Park (follow signs) - Approximately 45 KM from Edmonton
Register at the South Gate
Continue on until you see signs for Oster Lake/ Tawayik Lake
Turn left and follow road to Tawayik Lake parking lot
We will leave vehicles in parking lot and walk passed the gate on the service road to Oster Lake

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $29.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Tuesday, December 3, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
