Itinerary: | |||||||
The leaves are off the trees, giving a clear view of the sky, and
there is no snow on the ground at the moment. Perfect
conditions for geocaching! We will try to find the "Tale of the
One Legged Rum Hopper", the "Chickadee-dee-dee" and the
"Fort Edmonton" caches in the Fort Edmonton Park Area, and
will walk our dogs at the same time.
For those not familiar with geocaching, please visit Geocaching.com for more information. It is a worldwide hobby where people hide boxes of trinkets and post their GPS coordinates for others to find. It's treasure hunting by GPS! I have a GPS so you don't need one, but if you happen to have one then go to the web site, sign up, find the cache, and load up all of the coordinates you will need. Try the 'map it' option after typing in your home postal code to find the caches around you - then just zoom out and zoom into the Fort Edmonton area and you'll find the caches. Double click on a cache box to get to the geocache page. The hike includes mainly flat gravel paths. There might even be a little snow. There will also be some bushwacking involved, so don't bring your best coat and wear grippy hiking boots. Dogs must be on leash in this area. You are expected to be responsible for your dog's behaviour, so please keep him/her in check. The park is a bit tough to get to now with all the construction, so give yourself some extra time in case you miss the turnoff. Also, keep my phone number with you in case you get lost. We will meet at 1:30 pm at the east end of the parking lot and leave promptly at 1:40 pm. I will be wearing a white polar bear toque and I have a white dog. | |||||||

How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Heading east (south) on Whitemud Drive from the west end, take
the first exit after crossing the river and turn left after going
through the squeezy underpass. Heading west (north) on the
Whitemud from the Terwillegar area, you MUST take the Fox
Drive exit. Take your first left turn into the park. I'm not even
going to give you directions from Fox Drive because the access
in that area seems to change daily.
