The Mill Woods Mill Creek Ravine
Park is
located near the Jackie Parker Recreational Area
in Mill
Woods. I walk all the River Valley parks and
this
section of the
Mill Creek Ravine in Mill Woods one is my
favourites; even
though it’s not connected with the more well
know
sections
near the River Valley. These dirt trails are
quite
isolated and it
is hard to believe that you are in the middle of
a
residential
area in the City. There are nice wooden bridges
crisscrossing
the creek and you could see a fair amount of
wildlife there too.
I often see squirrels and chipmunks, lots of
birds; the
occasional deer and owl too". We will be hiking at a brisk pace East along Mill Creek on dirt single track and gravel trails for approximately 1 hour (each direction) and returning West on similar trails. Some sections of the trail are steep and can be slippery when wet. Footwear with a good tread is essential. We will meet for check in and introductions at 6:50 PM, and leave at 7:00 PM sharp. This challenging hike is 9 km in length, which encompasses stepping over fallen tree debris and hiking up and down steep slopes and single track trails. We will have you convinced that you are no longer in the city! **Please be aware the trail could be wet, or muddy in some sections. ***We are open to having dogs on the hike, however they must be leashed*** Also please note that this is a
group hike -
therefore "superfast hikers" (>5.4 km/hr and
above)
should be prepared
to wait for the group as a whole throughout the
whole hike.
Similarily - "less than regular hikers" (<5.1
km/hr)
-
please find the time to get some training hikes
in before this one, so that you are not "caught
cold" doing this high moderate intermediate pace
hike!
We
are
requesting $2.00
per event in person, or our suggested annual
donation of
$20 be done
electronically. | |||||||
