Itinerary:
This will be one hike this year designed to get us in shape and geared up for upcoming backpacking, or hiking trips with the EOC. Each week we will hike in the river valley area on trails that will help condition us. Hopefully leading up to enjoyable weekends exploring the Rockies and our own Alberta "back yard".
This hike is rated as a D4 difficulty because some of the trails have a steep elevation incline sections and may have tree roots, muddy sections, loose surface, narrow trail. Bringing hiking poles or a walking stick is advised.
Dogs are welcome on this hike, however they must be *leashed because there is no off- leash area where we are going. If you are bringing your dog(s) please note this when you sign up for the event.
We will hike one of the best kept secret in the Edmonton river valley coined by locals as "Ewok Village". This is a network of trails along the South East forested slope just below McNally High School. We will then hike under the Dawson bridge and travel along the even gravel trails around Riverside Golf Course to further challenging forest trails. We plan to keep a steady hiking pace through forested trails, up steep inclines, down challenging slopes and hidden gullies. The route will be finished by a hike up the hill on the paved multi-use trail back to McNally.

Please click 1. HERE for more info and tips on beginner backpacking and hiking if you are interested. The EOC also has some great links and outdoor resources listed on our drop down columns of the webpage.
Please click 2. HERE for our resource links.

In the case of any recent rain and extremely muddy conditions, we will alter the route to easier gravel and multi-use trails.

We will meet at McNally High School parking lot at 7:00 PM for introductions and questions, and then we will depart at 7:05 PM sharp. Please ensure you have good foot wear and are well hydrated. Look for Mark with the Royal Blue EOC cap.

Afterwards we can go for some well deserved refreshments and snacks at the Hill Top Pub: 8220-106 Avenue.
