See the magnificent view of the Mill Creek Valley that you have to experience to believe. The best way to see the ravine in this way, is to float down the "gentle" current, with Mill Creek Tubing Company. Their service will provide you with tube and life jacket rentals, as well they have a shuttle service to bring you back to your vehicle. Floating down the creek, you will enjoy the 52 meter ravine created from the Ice Age, various wildlife, and the joy of relaxing while the current drifts along this amazing and winding creek. We will use Mill Creek Tubing Company's shuttle service so you don’t have to worry about getting back to your vehicle when you are done. Leave your car in the parking lot and your keys in their shuttle van lock safe to keep them secure. They guarantee that we will not lose them in the creek, or the river at the end of the creek. This is a free trial run *Note that the tubes that are used have a very durable plastic skid enclosed bottom. This should help avoid punctures while going down the creek. There may still be ice from spring run-off and some garbage on the bottom of the creek e.g. shopping carts, hub caps, sheet metal etc. There will be a volunteer at the bottom of the creek preventing anyone from going further downstream to the North Saskatchewan River through the underground creek bypass. Update: A couple of changes to this event, due to popularity we have bumped the total number of participants to 35. Since this will be the Mill Creek Tubing Company's first event with the public there have been a few changes recommended by their safety contact with the City of Edmonton Parks: Hepatitis A and B shots are required (i.e. Twinrix). As well there is concern about the underground tunnel system at the bottom of the Mill Creek. We do not want members getting hung up in the large metal grating, so the Parks department will have a soft polypropylene net installed as a fail safe catch a few meters up from the tunnel system. To answer some questions already, yes they will have child size tubes for those of you who have responded as bringing your dog along to participate. Second update: The City has done further testing on rats at the top of Mill Creek, and you now do not require the Hepatitis A and B shots (e.g Twinrix). The rats did test positive for the bubonic plague, but most of us have our current immunizations for that disease. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubonic_plague#Third_outbreak Be Aware here's a short video of what Mill Creek Ravine usually can look like on the first of April: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMXxqRW_zyU Update 3, March 28th: Mill Creek Tubing Company checked conditions in the Mill Creek Ravine yesterday. They sent floating drone tubes down the raging rapids of the creek, and 4 out of 6 drones made it 750 meters to the test finish area. One drone is showing up on GPS now near North Battleford, Saskatchewan river valley. The other tube that disappeared in the tunnel system and has yet to resurface in GPS/Cell area. Not bad odds we say!!! | |||||||
