MEET AT CARPOOL DESTINATION AT 6 AM. Carpooling details will be arranged at this time. Departure time will be 6:30am. You will have a chance to grab a coffee at Starbucks. We will be following along the base of Queen Elizabeth Range in Jasper National Park to reach our backcountry destination at Jacques Lake. Jacques Lake trail offers up lush, valley-bottom snowshoeing with a number of stream crossings and three lakeside pit stops. The trailhead is found at the Beaver Lake Picnic Area, across from Medicine Lake on Maligne Lake Road. At the 4.8km mark the trail will turn sharply into a forested section and we will shortly arrive at the first and second Summit lakes. We will side track to take some views of these lakes if time allows. The area is classified as a Risk One Avalanche Zone which defines this as: This will be a long trek with frequent elevation changes. Backpacking experience is required and you must be prepared for winter camping. A 4 season tent is not a requirement for this trip. If you have extra tarps bring those along for ground cover to keep your 3 season tent dry. I would also recommend bringing extra padding to insulate from the cooler ground. This will be an opportunity to test the equipment you have. Your main priority will be to stay dry and warm. BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING PERMITS: A backcountry camping permit is mandatory for all overnight trips. Once we get closer to the date I will reserve the required backcountry sites. ***Please send an email to myself (bmk@ualberta.ca) to indicate your backcountry and winter camping experience. And let me know if you will be bringing your own tent or if you require a spot in someones tent.*** | |||||||
