Itinerary:
The Science in the Cinema film series is organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. All of the film screenings in the series are free of charge to attend (they also provide free popcorn). After the film is shown, there will be a short Q and A led by a health science researcher who will discuss issues with the audience that relate to the film.

The film that we will see is Amour , a 2012 drama. Amour tells the story of Georges and Anne, who are are an elderly couple. They are retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested. Amour is a French language film, with English subtitles, and it won the 2013 Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Foreign Language Film.

You can also watch a trailer for the film.

Please meet me inside the Garneau Theatre at 6:15 PM, outside the doors to the main auditorium. Please arrive promptly - once everyone arrives we'll find seats together inside the auditorium. Based on prior Science in the Cinema events that I have attended, I would expect the film screening to begin right at 6:30 and that the theatre will be relatively full, so if you arrive late please find your own seat inside the auditorium and let me know afterwards (by text/e-mail) that you made it to the event.

The film is listed as 127 minutes in length and will likely end just after 8:30. A short discussion will follow the film (who will be leading the discussion has not yet been announced).

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
$$ for drinks/other snacks (there is no cost to see the film, and everyone will be able to get a small popcorn for free)

Event Directions:The Metro Cinema at the Garneau Theatre is located at 8712 109 Street, directly south of the High Level Bridge at the north-west corner of 87th Avenue and 109 Street. We will meet within the carpeted lobby just outside of the theatre doors.
