Itinerary: | |||||||
Distance: approx. 13 to 17 km Hiking in Elk Island Park. We will hike along Tawayik lake to the west narrows and return along the same path. Only in winter can the whole trail be navigated as a loop. The narrows between Tawayik Lake and Little Tawayik Lake floods from spring through fall and remains a marsh. With a lot of luck and ideal weather, we will travel the whole trail as a loop. Be prepared to hike back the way we came in, for a full distance of 17km. There are a number of intersections along this trail. The group is expected to stay together very closely. Please be warned that your event coordinator has not done this hike before. Allow time/patience for unforseen circumstances please.

Event Directions: | Take the Yellowhead Trail east out of town. Go east on Hwy 16/Yellowhead for approx 50km. Turn left (north) on the main parkway. Watch for the signs after 5km for the Tawayik Lake turnoff f, it ends at a picnic area/trailhead in just over 1km. On line reference: Elk Island National Park .

Carpool Cost: | The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $29.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Thursday, November 21, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
