Come out for a Family Day cross-country ski at the Blackfoot
Recreation
Area. We'll start from the Waskehegan staging area and ski
from there, stopping at a shelter for lunch. Total distance will be
approximately 12 km, with an option for more. The trails are
generally well-groomed and not too difficult. Check out a trail map if you like. If you don't have skis, one option for renting them is Mountain Equipment Co-op. The full ski package costs $15/day. How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Blackfoot Recreation Area is located 24 km east of Sherwood Park, directly south of Elk Island National Park. The Waskehegan staging area is located on the west end of the park, on Range Road 210, just south of Township Road 524. | ||||||

Carpool Cost: | The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, November 23, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants. | ||||||
