Itinerary:
The Redwater Natural Area is a unique environment of sand dunes and interdune areas. This sandy natural area is home to a wide variety of plants and wildlife. The trail is in an off road vehicle area, but is one of the lesser frequented trails so it is good for snowshoeing. However, we will have to step off the trail now and then to let a snowmobile or two go by. Feel free to bring your dog as dogs can be off leash here. We will snowshoe for an hour, have some lunch, and then snowshoe for another hour, so don't forget to bring a lunch! Total round trip in snowshoes is about 7 km.

Due to the hilly nature of the dunes and the length of the hike, this is a moderate rated snowshoe event. Please do not sign up if you have never snowshoed before or are not fit enough to snowshoe hilly areas for 2 hours.

Required Items to Bring:
Water
Weather-appropriate clothing (toques, gloves, waterproof or snow pants etc., and dress in synthetic layers - no cotton!)
Snowshoes and boots are required (absolutely no runners!) and hiking poles are strongly recommended
Participants must provide their own equipment - snowshoes can be rented at MEC or Totem
Lunch
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Dog
Camera
Sunglasses
Hot chocolate

How to Get There:
Event Directions:We will meet at Totem Outdoor Outfitters overflow parking at 10:00 am to organize the carpool (see directions to carpool location below) and will leave for the Redwater Natural Area promptly at 10:15 am. It is a one hour and fifteen minute drive. Please bring cash in case you end up riding with someone else. I will have printed directions on how to get to the Natural Area with me to give to the drivers. However, if you want to print your own, go to google maps and get directions from "Totem Outdoor Outfitters" to "Redwater Natural Area".

Totem is open 11-5 on Sunday, so if renting you will need to pick up your shoes on Saturday, but you will be able to return them when we get back.
