Itinerary: | |||||||
Snowshoeing conjures up images of fur traders trudging through deep snow on platforms of wood and sinew. But like many other outdoor winter sports, snowshoeing has undergone somewhat of a re-invention. If conditions are right, snowshoeing offers a chance to see terrain that even cross-country skiers have trouble accessing
And be warned - snowshoeing can be hard work and hills are especially difficult. Tromping through the snow provides a great aerobic work-out but can also be tough on the legs. Experience the wonders of the Maligne Canyon from the ground up on a guided icewalking tour in Jasper National Park. Your ice walk adventure guide will lead you safely along the frozen canyon floor through its maze of fascinating ice sculptures. Step into a surreal winter world and explore the entrance to a cave system, ice caves, fossils and towering frozen waterfalls stretching over 30m up the canyon walls! Let the beauty of ice surround you on an unforgettable winter icewalk adventure. ITINERARY: Friday: leave Edmonton Friday afternoon/evening and spend the night at Jasper Hostel or choice of accomodations.
Saturday: We meet our guide in Jasper at 9:00 and head out for the Maligne Canyon Ice Walk tour for the morning, transportation provided. Then we return for lunch in Jasper and head out for an afternoon of snowshoeing at the Valley of the Five Lakes. Dinner in Jasper, TBD at pretrip meeting. Theres an option for some night skating at skating rink unless we want to cozy up by the fireplace instead!
Sunday: Showshoe trip at another trail, to be determined based on conditions at that time. We will snowshoe for a couple hours, have a late lunch, and return to Edmonton.
I have had some requests for particular style of accomodation, so please make your own booking. Jasper Hostel at Whistler. The 46 bed dorm style accomodations (male, female, mixed or private) have in building showers and washrooms. Book at the website below. http://www.hihostels.ca/westerncanada/1478/HI-Jasper.hostel There are many choices, take a look at http://www.jasperhotels.com Since this is a winter trip, it will be very weather dependent. Patience and flexibility for unforseen circumstances through the day will be essential. NOTE: You are required to make your own accomodation reservations. The paid fee only covers the guided and equipped ice walk. | |||||||
