Itinerary:
We will ski the Shirley Lake Trail at Elk Island National Park, with a stop along the way for lunch. The trail is approximately 13 km long, and is fairly flat with only a few small hills. Check out the Elk Island National Park website for more information.

If you don't have skis, one option for renting them is Mountain Equipment Co-op. The full ski package costs $15/day. You can reach MEC at 488-6614, just ask for the rental department. For more info, see their website.

Required Items to Bring:
National Parks Pass (if you have one) or $7 park entrance fee
Warm clothing appropriate to the weather
Lunch and snacks
Water (at least 2 litres)
Cross-country skis (and wax, if appropriate)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Elk Island National Park is located approximately 40 minutes from Edmonton, via Highway 16 East (Yellowhead).

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, November 23, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
