Itinerary:
Feature Presentation: ‘PEDAL’ USA, 2001, 52 minutes, directed by Peter Sutherland. All movie events start with “Barb’s Bike Shorts” (22 min), prizes and more. Movie: PEDAL – Pedal is a face paced documentary film about surviving in the streets of New York as a bicycle messenger. It features messengers from all walks of life as they battle traffic in a race to make their next delivery on time. Pedal allows the viewer to live the spectacle of delivery, without the bruises and near misses that make up the daily life of a bicycle messenger. Before the feature, we’re playing ‘‘One Got Fat’ USA, 1963, 15 minutes, directed by Dale Jennings. A group of children, all wearing ape masks, ride their bicycles to the park for a picnic. Does Rooty-Toot Jasperson or Mossby Pomegranate know enough about bike safety to make it to the park? This strange film was narrated by Edward Everett Horton (you may remember him as Roaring Chicken from F-Troop). A classic bike safety film that you will never forget.

‘Cyclewala – The Bicycle Doctor’India/USA, 2007, 3m 18s, directed by the Swajana Collaborators
Pravin Swaminathan Pillai (35), a bicycle repairer, conducts his business at a lane in Koregaon Park, Pune. Because of his family’s bad economic condition he had to quit his school in the fifth standard. Since then he started repairing bicycles. He has been doing this job for the past 15 years and with the savings of 15 hardworking years; he is all set to buy his own shop and conduct the same business on a larger scale.
Swajana means “our people”. It’s a collaboration between an Indian and a U.S. video team. The goal is to show daily life in India through the eyes of people who actually live there. The U.S. team simply helps to solve technical problems and do promotion. The Indian team chooses all the stories and does the production.
