Itinerary:
We will meet at the Bonnie Doon Mall Parking Lot at 10:30 AM and leave from there at 10:45 AM for Elk Island Park. Because of the possibility of last-minute changes, we request that ALL participants leave from the carpool; 'Meet at Event' is not an option. This event will depend on weather and trail conditions. Hopefully, it will be nice enough that we will be able to do a longer trail, which would take about 3-4 hours. In the event of very cold or windy weather, we will do a couple of shorter trails instead, allowing time for a warmup in between. Either way, we will hike, stop for lunch, and finish the hike about 3-4 hrs duration. The pace will be 'moderate'. CHECK EMAILS ON FRIDAY EVENING TO CONFIRM WEATHER CONDITIONS AND DURATION. I will be checking with park staff the day before to confirm trail conditions.

Required Items to Bring:
Warm Clothes - dress in layers. Hat and gloves. Snacks, water. National Parks Pass or cash ($7.80) for admission. I HAVE ONE PARK PASS, IF YOU HAVE ONE, PLEASE BRING IT. Cash to pay your driver if carpooling.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Camera, binoculars, sunglasses, hiking poles, rain jacket, hat. Be prepared for spring weather. Ice grips may not be required but be prepared for muddy conditions.

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $34.80 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, November 23, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:
Hopefully the snow will be gone by then, but you never know what the trail conditions will be. Be prepared for spring conditions, snow, mud, rain, and of course sunshine and fun!
