Mon, Nov 2 2009 - On Dry Land: Detecting Drought In Alberta's Past (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Ryan
Participants:Ryan, Cliff K., Vadim, Alissa, Pete V, Chris, Sandie

Write Up:
7 of us attended an informative presentation by Dr. Alwynne Beaudoin of the Royal Alberta Museum, who talked about her research into the history of drought in the Canadian West. We learned that droughts are not a rare phenomenon here, and that the droughts that have occurred in the last century are small compared to more extreme droughts that have occurred over the last several hundred years.

The presentation was organized as the Fall Social for the Waskahegan Trail Association, which a number of EOCers belong to - for those who attended, if you are interested in joining, you can find details about their organization and what they do on their website.

Unfortunately, none of the EOC people present were able to take home a door prize (and I know I really had my eye on some hiking poles they were giving away!). However, after the talk and refreshments, some of us took advantage of the discounts they were offering at Campers Village, and picked up some new gear and clothing.

Thanks all for coming out!

- Ryan
