Sat, Aug 12 2006 - Day Hike - Cooking Lake Blackfoot Provincial Park (View Original Event Details)
|
We started our hike from the Blackfoot Lake parking lot, in the N.E. corner of the park. From there we ended up doing about a 12 km loop, stopping for lunch at the shelter by Coyote Lake. It was an awesome day for wildlife: Yellow-sided Garter snake, Wood frogs EVERYWHERE (challenging not to step on), Red Tailed Hawks, some rather tame Spruce Grouse, a fair amount of bear scat, and later, some buffalo on the drive home. It was the pure wilderness experience, yet we were less than an hour from the city. The weather conveniently held until we reached our cars, when there was a small deluge. Thanks to all who game out, it was great conversation and a great hike. Kerry
