Sat, Jun 27 2009, Sun, Jun 28 2009 - Backpacking/Camping - Allstones Lake (View Original Event Details)
|
We huffed and puffed and dragged our bodies and packs up to Allstones Lake in about 3 hours. We set up our tents on the shore at the far side of the lake, and some of us celebrated our auspicious arrival by taking an extremely brief dip in the cold lake. It was quite refreshing!
Later on Saturday afternoon, all of us hiked up to Allstones Peak - a steep climb that rewarded us with birds-eye views of our campsite on our way up, and a stunning view out towards Lake Abraham once we reached the top of the ridge. We returned down to the lake using a slightly unconventional route, stopping on the way to check out a place that Van considered to be a possible aboriginal vision quest site. We spent the evening sitting around the campfire (a must on any camping trip!). Chris and Alissa spent part of the evening fishing, and even managed to snag a couple of trout out of the lake.
The weather remained clear for most of the weekend, and we were very fortunate that the rain didn't come until after we had gone to bed. Even more fortunately, the rainy weather cleared up by morning. Cat, Van and Susan opted to do a little bit of additional exploring near the lake. The other 5 of us started the long hike down, and after grabbing a delicious bite at the Miner's Cafe in Nordegg, we parted ways and started the long drive back to Edmonton.
Thanks all for coming! I hope to see you all again soon at another event!
