Sat, Nov 1 2008 - Wood Bison Trail (View Original Event Details)
|
Three of us met at the trailhead for the Wood Bison Trail in Elk Island Nat'l Park today for a nice fall hike. We were on the trail by 9:20am and had a comfortable pace throughout the hike with a few stops for water and snacks. The temperature was slightly cool when we left our cars but warmed up throughout the morning. We had some nice oppurtunities to view some wildlife: 5 moose total at 3 different locations, 1 single bison and then a small heard of maybe 12, a lone coyote, a bird, and some squirrels. A couple moose were seen at close range, 10 and maybe 20 feet away. Very cool. We arrived back at our cars at about 1:10pm, so 3:50 minutes and according to Larry's GPS, a distance of 17.4km. There is some discrepancy with the Parks website showing 18.6km, the sign at the trailhead showing 16km, and then Larry's GPS. Who knows, but it was a good hike. Thanks to Larry and Bonnie for joining me this morning and for the good company and good conversation. Cheers! Jeff
