Fri, Jun 20 2008 - Hayburger Trail - Elk Island NP (View Original Event Details)
|
What a beautiful morning for a hike in Elk Island Nat'l Park. I appreciated the patience of the 5 members as I was a little late getting to the trailhead due to some paving work being done on the access road. We set out on the Hayburger Trail which was an easy and pleasant trail mostly through wooded areas of the park. Our highlight was seeing a small herd of Buffalo at close range. A couple buffalo actually were startled and ran off to join their friends. We were thankful they did not run in our direction. We had a trail finding hiccup and took a wrong turn and ended up on the bison loop road but with some excellent route finding and navagational skills, we got back on the correct trail to eventually finish the trail and find our cars. We were on the trail for 3 hours or so which included a nice snack break. The weather was perfect and was certainly warm enough even in the morning. I enjoyed all the participants and the good conversation. Many thanks to Laura and Kristen for making this trip their first ever EOC event. I hope they decide to participate on future events. Thanks to all for making this an enjoyable morning in Elk Island. Jeff
