Wed, Jan 30 2008 - River Valley winter evening urban hike (View Original Event Details)
|
This event turned out to be pretty small in numbers. I guess the colder temperatures scared a few people away on this night. Most who had signed up seemed content with staying warm. John, Donna, and myself were either brave enough or crazy enough to head out into the cold winter evening of the river valley for another urban hike adventure. The three of us all with several layers started walking towards Queen Elizabeth Park and all the way to the rafters launch on the north sask river where we turned back, crossed the river, and walked all the way to the lrt bridge where we crossed back to the south bank, then east again through the kinsmen parking lot to our cars. About 90 mins and around 6-8kms. I was very surprised at how warm and comfortable I was during this event in the cold temps. The layering system I had worked great! I also might have been out to maybe prove to myself that if properly prepared, one can still enjoy an evening outside in such type of weather. John and Donna also commented that they were fine with their layers. The views over downtown edmonton were fabulous and the city does enjoy a nice skyline view of the downtonw area. Thank-you to John and Donna for coming out and braving the cold. It was an excellent walk and would not hesitate to do such again. It was a fun time!
