It was an exhausting but exhilerating two days of climbing. Our first day started out with everyone in high spirits and Narmin managed to keep us entertained in the 40 some minutes drive to the "secret" climbing site. After getting some instruction on how to walk in our crampons, (walk like a gun slinging cowboy) and climb (TUHOS - "toes up, heels out, stab"), we were tying ourselves in to whack our way up 50-60 foot ice walls. Everyone did an amazing job on their first day (Vincent even managed to make his way up the pillar - one of the toughest pitches out there that day) and were in a blissful exhaustion on the way back to the lodge. We were up early the next day to conquer yet another ice wall but first we had to hike uphill for at least an hour to get to it. The hike was well worth it as we had an incredible view from the ledge and some awesome ice walls to climb. Some of us (Laura, Shah, Krystian and Narmin) even decided to try climbing toolless up one of the pitches.
The COE guides were awesome and I think they inspired many of us to climb harder pitches than we ever imagined we could do. And I think there are many of us who are anxious to get out to climb again. Thanks to our wonderful COE guides: Dave, Jenn, Mike, Scott and Gavin!
