Fri, Oct 26 2007, Sat, Oct 27 2007 - Hike - Glacier Lake (View Original Event Details)
|
We left Edmonton just after 5pm on Friday and had a nice dinner at the Boston Pizza in Rocky. Somebody even got a 'free dinner'. We drove into Nordegg and stretched out, relaxed, and had a good night's sleep. We drove into Banff and by 10:00am, we were on the trail. We made excellent time. In 2:10, we were at the lake - over 4km/hr pace along easy trails. We enjoyed some initial views south into river flats and felt the cool autumn wind. The bridge over the Sask river was also very cool. Once we arrived at the lake, we had our lunch and explored the back-country camp ground complete with bear poles, tables, fire pit, and a rustic one-person cabin. With the good time, we decided to follow the trail along the shore of the lake for about 30 minutes. This was a highlight as we all enjoyed wonderful views of glacier lake and the rugged mountains, complete with nice views of Lyell Icefield. Our hike back was also easy and by 5pm, we were at our cars. The trail conditions were perfect, temperatures cool but fine, and wonderful skies. We enjoyed a chinese buffet in Rocky before returning home to Edmonton. Thanks to all who came and made this a great trip. Glacier lake is a fine shoulder season hike and would make for a nice early spring back-pack. A nice welcome to Andreas (Andy) who experienced his first EOC trip. I hope we can see you on future events during your stay here in Canada. A thanks to Colin for driving. Cheers!
