|
The rain and mosquitoes cut our hiking plans a little bit short, but all in all we had a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend of camping. We arrived out in Banff on Friday - two of us earlier, while most of the group arrived mid-evening - and we sat around the fire for the rest of the evening.
The group hiked up Tunnel Mountain on Saturday morning. After a short break back at our campsite we set out for our second hike of the day, C-Level Cirque. In late June, the park still had reports of avalanche danger on the C-Level Cirque trail, so on that basis I wasn't sure if we'd even be able to do this hike. In the end, a spell of hot weather made avalanches no longer a threat, but clouds of mosquitoes forced us to turn back within the first kilometre along the trail. The group instead headed for Johnston Canyon, where we joined the crowds on the trail to the lower waterfall. After a few of us grabbed some ice cream, we were on our way back to our campground.
The skies opened up early on Saturday evening, as a storm rolled through. Fortunately, the weather cleared up enough that a few of us were able to sit around a campfire for a second evening. Facing a foreboding weather forecast on Sunday, with an 80% chance of rain, we opted not to head out hiking. Instead, after breaking camp, we all headed our separate ways (with most of us planning on having breakfast in town, and then poking around the shops for a couple of hours).
Thanks all for coming out! Hope you all enjoyed the trip like I did!
