Thu, Feb 1 2007 - Beginner Snowshoeing (View Original Event Details)
|
Mother Nature certainly was thinking of the EOC when she sent us a whole bunch of beautiful new snow and a bright shiny full moon... but maybe not so much with the -24C weather! Nevertheless, 8 hardy members piled on the layers and headed out to meet Paul from the City of Edmonton for an evening of snowshoing. After a quick run through of the types of snowshoes, we got geared up, played some tag to warm up and set off for a wonderous trek through Whitmud park. Along the way, Paul shared his knowledge of the local flora and fauna (artesian springs do not freeze), of outdoor survival (you can survive up to 3 hours of being submerged in a creek in the winter) and of fun, skill perfecting games (go Mad Plumber!). All in all we spent about an 75 minutes exploring the trails, and then wound up yet another successful event with hot chocolate and plans for another trip soon. -Kathryn
