Just three of us headed out today for our explorer snow shoe at Pembina River Provincial Park. We parked at the Overflow parking (the road down to the day use area was closed). From the overflow parking, you can hook onto the official hiking trail, which follows the river, from the day use area to the end of the campground.

We stayed on the path just for a short time (heading away from the day use area) and dropped down onto the river at the boat launch. The river was frozen solid and had some snowmobile and other snow shoe tracks on it. We could see the Lobstick River coming in (it flows from Chip Lake into Pembina River) across the river and decided to hike up it to see what was up there. It has some great cliffs and a frozen waterfall. From Lobstick River, we re-joined the shore on the other side of the Pembina River and bush-whacked our way to the top of the ridge. Along the way we saw an old old vehicle buried in the forest. Following the ridge, which is the boundary of the provincial park, we found a trail down off the ridge and re-crossed the Pembina river, returning to the boat launch.

We took the official trail back towards the Overflow parking, and beyond to the Day Use area. From there it was a short walk up the road back to the Overflow parking.

Thanks, Conan, for joining us today - it was great to get out!!
